Introduction
As you can read in the Dutch article 'Britse parlementariërs krijgen een eigen kantoortje' Portcullis House was opened by the Queen on February 27th, 2001. The building fits perfectly in the surrounding area and offers the MP's some extra work-space. However, not everyone is satisfied with the result and there has been quite a bit of opposition to the new building. If you want to get a better view of the building, go to the site mentioned in 'Beyond the Assignment' below.
Assignment
Read the Dutch article.
On the BBC-site there are a number of articles on Portcullis. Surf to the site of The BBC and search its archives for such articles.
Use the 'search' option on the first page. Look for articles on 'Portcullis House'. You should be able to find some 25 articles. Not all the articles mentioned there discuss the problems at Portcullis House. But there are enough to be able to find a number of positive and negative points that were made about the building and its interior. For instance “MPs' new offices had 7,500 defects” is a good place to start.
In Word draw up a table of two columns by nine rows. In the first column you place the positive points that are made about Portcullis House by especially the MP's that are going to work there. In the second column you write a brief explanation of each of the points.
Then draw up a second table of the same size and do the same for the negative points that were made.
Find at least eight positive and eight negative points. The Dutch article might also give you some clues.
Add titles for the columns and write an introduction of a few lines for each of the two tables.
